After an 0-7 start, Magnolia finished the year off with 3-straight wins in Craig Mason’s 1st season as head coach. One full off-season later, and the Blue Eagles are looking for a big year.

“The biggest thing we saw in the off-season was just the comradery of the guys, we feel like we’re farther along now than we were probably weeks 7 or 8 last year.”

One player who’s further along at this point is Junior Quarterback Kingston Christen. After some under-classman mistakes last year, Coach Mason believes he is now processing the game at a higher level.

“You saw some of his sophomore mistakes with putting the ball into bad places, and we’re seeing a major improvement in that area this year. So he’s making really good decisions, good reads, and getting the ball where it needs to be and when it’s not there being smart enough to throw it away.”

In the run-game, the Blue-Eagles feel confident as well with their 2-headed monster of Matthew Anderson & Hunter Oates.

“They’re both violent runners, so by being able to platoon them, getting them breathers and give them rest, from play 1 to 2, it pays off for us.”

Blocking for those 2 and occasionally showing off the hands will be returning fullback Landon Streets, with Eden Harlan, Anthony Lancaster & Jackson Fortney.

Wirt County will be 1st up for Magnolia when they kickoff Friday, September 6th at home
