Oglebay’s Labor Day celebration packed with weekend of fun

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — Fireworks, skydivers, woodcarvers, foam parties, live entertainment, and more fireworks are just part of the massive Labor Day Weekend Celebration at Oglebay.

It all gets underway this Saturday at 10 a.m., when some of the most talented wood carvers from across the country will put their talents on display at the Pine Room.

Schenk Lake offers fun for the whole family, with a foam party on Saturday from 5 to 7.

That’s followed by a spectacular skydiving performance as expert divers descend from 12,000 feet.

Oglebay officials promise to end the summer season with a bang.

This place is going to be bumpin’. We’ve got tons of stuff going on. One of the biggest things we have is Fort Henry Days, which starts off Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. If you want to see some great reenactments, they are setting up right now. It’s just going to be. You’re transported back in time when you go to these reenactments. We just keep adding to it. So this year, we were like, what can we add this year? In the past, people were like there were no fireworks after the skydivers; it just kind of fades out. This year, we added fireworks to finish with a bang on Saturday night.”

Now, there’s also a massive pool party starting Sunday afternoon, complete with a dad’s belly-flop competition.

It all winds down on Sunday evening with Music Under the Stars. This year, Broadway actress Siri Howard and local star Amanda McGovern perform with the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra.
