HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. ( WTRF ) – It’s the best of both worlds as coffee and breakfast make a return to New Cumberland.

7News got an exclusive interview with Megan Trevor, the owner of the city’s newest restaurant, Sweet Rock Coffee and Sandwich Shop. It’s located at 908 North Chester St., in between the Hancock County Magistrate Office and the Sparkle Market in downtown New Cumberland.

Trevor has spent the last month engaging with the community and serving fresh, homemade food and coffee.

“I’ve been in the food industry probably 15 to 18 years, and it’s always been a dream to have my own place. I really thought for a long time that I was going to have my own food truck versus a brick and mortar such as this. But being out on my own, it’s great.”

This small-town, West Virginia themed coffee and sandwich shop is inspired by a love of homemade food and travel, especially within the Mountain State.

Small details in the decor and on the menu pay tribute to the beauty of West Virginia. For example, the photos hung on the walls within the shop were all taken in the state.

Another important aspect Trevor implements into her mission is good quality food and coffee in a reasonable amount of time.

“We try to make the in and out travel time pretty quick. That’s a lot of what going on in town is short lunch periods. You got magistrate, you got the courthouse, you got the city building. They don’t have a lot of time to go and sit-down places. So that’s what’s great about this place. Yes, the menu is small but it’s turnover quick.”

Sweet Rock serves a variety of breakfast items such as breakfast sandwiches, waffles, biscuits and gravy, and a variety of coffee.

“I do build your own breakfast sandwiches. And one of the most popular breakfast items that I have is called The Boulder. So, it’s homemade sausage gravy with biscuits and topped with fried potatoes and scrambled eggs.”

Other popular items include the homemade blueberry muffins and the “Soup of the Day” which varies from wedding soup, loaded potato, chili and even cheese tortellini with Italian sausage.

And there are a variety of options for coffee lovers.

“You get all of your options from hot coffee, iced coffee, frozen coffees. So, we start with your base and then you can add what kind of syrups you want. I probably have 12 to 15 different coffees syrups you can add. Plus, the drizzles on the inside of the cup and whipped cream.”

On top of running her own business, Megan is a busy mom of two and works a full-time job at the VFW in New Cumberland.

She says she is so grateful for everyone’s support and looks forward to growing Sweet Rock with the community.

It is a cash-only establishment, but Trevor hopes to get an ATM so people who don’t carry cash can still enjoy her menu items.

Trevor says she and her husband chose the name of the shop after several days of doodles and some vetoes.

“Those local, they’ll get a good giggle out of this… my husband and I went back and forth. He wanted to call it “The Goose Crossing”, but we ended up vetoing that and I stuck with Sweet Rock.”

The outdoor signs were created by Campbell Signs and the menu was designed by Megan White, a local teacher and member of the New Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department.
