“Voices of Hope” – Discover Recovery event sheds a light on substance misuse and recovery

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) – Over the last 12 months, 21 lives have been lost in the city of Wheeling alone to drug overdose.

August 31st is National Overdose Awareness Day, and YWCA Wheeling, Youth Services System, and the Ohio County IMPACT Coalition have teamed up for another year to bring the ‘Voices of Hope – Discover Recovery’ event to Wheeling.

Their mission is to bring together family and friends of those experiencing substance misuse to provide them with resources and support.

Their hashtags this year are #WeCanSeeYou and #CanYouSeeMeNow.

”The information that we really want to get out there is that together we can remember those without stigma that have died and acknowledge the grief of their family and their friends. So, every year we honor those individuals who have lost their lives to overdose.”

The “Voices of Hope – Discover Recovery” event is on August 31 ^st at the West Virginia Northern Community College courtyard from 12:00 to 2:30.

An interactive presentation promoting International Overdose Awareness will take place, as well as free food and drinks for anyone in attendance.
