OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) – There is good news and bad news for anyone affected by the severe storms we experienced back on April 11th and 12th.

The good news is the deadline to apply for FEMA assistance has been extended to November 2nd.

The bad news is if you want to talk to someone in person about it, you have until Friday, August 30th to do so.

The local Disaster Recovery Centers in Ohio and Hancock Counties will close permanently on Friday at 6:00pm.

Don’t miss this chance to talk to someone in person, because you might be eligible for help.

“What I do hear a lot of the time is, ‘I had no idea I was eligible for this type of assistance.’ And that’s why we encourage people to come in and talk to someone face to face, because if you’re like me, you like to talk to someone, you don’t want to talk to a robot….Anyone out there who was impact by the storms from April 11th through the 12th, whether you’re a homeowner, renter, whether you have insurance, don’t have insurance, if you were impacted by the storms in any way, please stop by and talk to us.”

Trey Paul – Media Relations Specialist with FEMA

Both centers are open from 8:00am until 6:00pm tomorrow.

In Ohio County the office is at 25 Armory Drive in Wheeling, and the Hancock office is at 104 North Court Street in New Cumberland.

If you aren’t able to make it before they close, you can call 1-800-621-3362, you can download the FEMA App, or visit DisasterAssistance.gov .
