WEIRTON, W.Va. (WTRF) – We often see political ads and social media posts of candidates’ viewpoints throughout their campaign, but hearing from them firsthand can give a different perspective.

That’s why as we approach the upcoming November election in West Virginia, the Hancock and Brooke County Democratic Executive Committees and Democratic Women brought several of those candidates all to one room to speak to voters face-to-face.

Among those was senate candidate and former Wheeling mayor Glenn Elliott, who made this his final stop on his 55-county tour.

Organizers say they were hoping to hear a few key issues be touched on.

”Women’s rights. Absolutely. And the economy.”

Anna Gillespie – Chair, Brooke County Democratic Executive Committee

”A lot of our candidates have been traveling all over the state from one county to the next. So we want to catch them while they’re here in Hancock County. And it’s just so important for everybody to know who they are and what they’re about and remember their names on Election Day.”

Kathy Link – Chair, Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee

They had six democratic candidates in attendance from both state and local levels, and several others who sent letters to be read in their absence as they continue the campaign trail.

The next meet-the-candidate event will take place in October.
