A West Virginia school board met on Friday during a work session and created a plan to consolidate four high schools into two and to consolidate two 7th and 8th grade schools.

During a Wetzel County Board work session , the Wetzel County Board of Education planned to consolidate Paden City High School with Magnolia High School and also consolidate Valley High School with Hundred High School.

They also discussed a plan to consolidate Paden City 7th and 8th grade with New Martinsville 7th and 8th grade.

The meeting said that the Valley and Hundred consolidation would mean the schools would have a new name, new colors, new mascot, and a new mission. The same would be true for the Paden City High School and Magnolia High School consolidation.

There was also a discussion on combining the two schools, into one for the whole county.

A vote is scheduled at the next school board meeting.

If the board votes to consolidate, the West Virginia Board of Education would have to agree on the consolidation.

Members said they hope the community and schools 100% work together for names, colors, mission and a mascot.

7News reached out to Superintendent Cassie Porter and members of the school board for a comment and have yet to hear back

There was the Superintendent 's motive! She just didn't have the guts to say it to people's faces before.
