STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (WTRF) — At most concerts, the musicians we see and hear are performing for a living.

But at a show next month in Steubenville, the kids who take the stage will be singing for their future.

After a four-year COVID delay, the African Children’s Choir is finally returning to pack the Sycamore Youth Center once again.

Young talent from several countries will blend traditional hymns and dance for an audiovisual picture of faith, while also raising money for their education.

Sycamore Executive Director Bobbyjon Bauman says their tour around the country often gets them through college, where they otherwise might not be in a classroom at all.

“Since this organization has been around long enough, we’ve seen the track record of what they’ve done, where a lot of the kids that were involved in the choir become doctors, lawyers, have become educators. So it’s kind of neat to see the fruit of the labors of what they’ve been doing for a couple of decades.”

An offering will be taken up, but the October 28th concert is entirely free and Bauman is expecting a standing-room-only crowd.

The Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church is also assisting with housing and food for the choir.
