BRIDGEPORT, Ohio — NAMI is joining forces with Cindy Ruggiero, founder of Something Sober, to create a new space for recovering addicts.

Something Sober is a program that invites people to explore their creativity, brainstorm activities, and become acquainted with fellow peers in the community.

Ruggiero says she was inspired by her son’s personal struggle and wanted to create a space that helps maintain sobriety in an engaging way.

“They need different outlets for their creativity to help them maintain their sobriety. So, our hope is to create an atmosphere like that and maybe even have some speakers come in.”

“If people want to go hiking together then we can organize things like that, it’s not going to concretely held here in this space it’s just where we’re starting the journey.”

Kayla Straight, NAMI peer service navigator, mental health advocate

“The biggest problem with recovery is boredom, so having something like this can help people find a new hobby or passion.”

Jeanette Ziegler, peer advocate for recovering addicts

The first meeting will be held Tuesday the 10th at 6pm in the NAMI Drop Center in Bridgeport.

All are welcome to come share ideas of what they’d like out of the program.
