Ohio school put on soft lockdown after indirect threat made

UPDATE 4:10 pm: The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department has released a statement on Monday’s lockdown at Buckeye Local Schools.

“We received information about a threat that was made to the Buckeye Local School District on a social media platform “Snapchat.” We are currently trying to identify the threat. We feel it was made to induce panic. However, we are treating it with the utmost seriousness, as we continue to investigate and identify where it originated.”

Update 1:39 pm: School officials have said that all after-school activities at the JR./SR. High Schools are canceled tonight. That includes practices, games. and meetings.

An Ohio school is currently on a soft lockdown after an indirect threat was made at an Ohio school.

Buckey Local High School posted to their social media that due to an indirect threat, Buckeye Local JR/SR High has been put on a soft lockdown as the Sheriff’s Department Investigates.

7News received a news tip from a viewer who says they received a Snapchat that said “Nobody knows me but we’re shooting up the Buckeye Local. We aren’t lying this time and we’re gonna hurt everyone. We have main targets on the 6th, 7th, 8th grade. We’re going to the elementary next. This is not a drill. We’re coming some day this week.”

Buckeye Local Schools says they have alerted authorities and have put all buildings on high alert status.

7News also reached out to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department for a statement and are awaiting a response.
