Ohio police seize imitation Glock water guns from vendors at Belmont County Fair

BELMONT COUNTY, OHIO (WTRF) – Sheriff Dave Lucas has announced that 38 illegal lookalike guns were seized at the Belmont County Fair last week.

They are battery-powered water pistols, but they do not have the mandatory blaze orange or red tip, and they look exactly like a real Glock pistol. Deputies seized the imitation firearms from two different vendors.

A father who picked up his son at the fair was shocked to see what he had bought. So he called the sheriff’s department.

The water guns look virtually identical to a real Glock handgun. The photo shows a real Glock (with a white frame) and there’s the lookalike, in front of it.

So the sheriff sent deputies to the fair to seize the toy guns. He says if a child or adult is pointing one at someone…that person, if armed, could assume it’s real and take action.

“They don’t have time to wait. I mean you see real shootings every day. In regards to police officers, we can’t take chances. Officers or a conceal carry person. Is this a toy or not? It looks like a gun and it’s being pointed at you, it’s that person’s perspective in regard to using deadly force or not.”

Sheriff Lucas says his deputies will smash the lookalike guns and destroy them. He recommends that parents of any kids who bought one…destroy it also.

He notes that they were made in China, and should never have gotten through customs.

He’s going to notify the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
