CAMERON, W.Va. (WTRF) — Cracks in the walls, sinking foundations, and doors that are jammed shut.

Families in a Cameron neighborhood are finding new damage to their houses every day, and say nearby longwall mining from American Consolidated Natural Resources is to blame.

The neighbors say the rapid coal extraction technique has been disturbing the land on Green Valley Road since last October.

More than a dozen homeowners gathered Wednesday to share stories of their properties disintegrating.

Former coal miner Don Stern says the mining has caused him so much grief he wants to move out, but can’t find any buyers.

“As far as values, they’ve trashed the place. I can’t think that anybody would want to buy it now…As soon as ACNR is hooked to your house, forget it.”

“I can’t get the front door open. The only way I’m getting out of my house is through my back door. I can get the front door open, but I have to use a crowbar.”

7News asked ACNR for comment on the situation but has not heard back as of Wednesday evening.
