Female juvenile arrested after making school threat

JEFFERSON COUNTY, OHIO (WTRF) – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says they have a female juvenile in custody, in relation to the threat toward Buckeye Local School District from this week.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department took the suspect into custody around 5pm Wednesday and brought them and a parent to their office for questioning.

That’s when the juvenile took responsibility and admitted to making both threats to Buckeye Local Schools.

That individual is currently being held in the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center on an initial pending charge of inducing panic.

Sheriff Fred Abdalla says that he has spoken to Superintendent Coy Sudvary, and that Buckey Local Schools will be open tomorrow with the presence of law enforcement.

He heeds this advice moving forward.

”If you’re going to give a kid a phone, like a smart phone with the capability of having the universe at their fingertips, you better understand what they’ve got. You better understand the type of social platform, social media platforms they’re on, the type of content of viewing, the type of content that they’re sending. This isn’t the first time that we’ve talked about juveniles making mistakes with these phones. It keeps happening and keeps happening. Every student will be checked upon entering the building by school administration staff in the presence of law enforcement. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will have a heightened presence within the district for a period of time moving forward. And we’re going to continue to investigate this to make sure the individual in custody acted alone.”

The juvenile in custody will have a hearing tomorrow morning to determine whether or not they will remain in detention until the filing of the official charges and initial appearance hearing.
