BELMONT COUNTY, OHIO (WTRF) – Yet another Ohio Valley teen has been indentified as making a threat against a school.

Sheriff Dave Lucas revealed today that a 14-year-old in Belmont County is now known to have taken an existing social media post from a nearby county, and added to it, claiming the threat also included Bellaire Schools.

The sheriff held a news conference today saying these threats induce panic, drain the resources of law enforcement and will not be tolerated.

“They’re taking the original post and they’re adding this information to say, well the threat’s here, here and here. And people need, you know, if someone makes a threat, don’t get involved. Let us go after the original person. ‘Cause like this, you make a comment and forward it, now you’re part of it. It is a felony. It’s not a misdemeanor, slap on the hand. It is a felony.”

He says in this case, the teen has been expelled from school, but is not in the Sargus Juvenile Center at this point. No arrest has been made, but Sheriff Lucas says the report will be forwarded to the prosecutor with a recommendation for charges.

He says if you see a threat posted, tell a parent or law enforcement officer. Do not circulate it or add to it.

He says that makes you as guilty as the person who originated it.

The kid is 14, I think being expelled from school and being referred to the prosecutor for. charges and having this on his record for the rest of his life is pretty severe. What do you think his punishment should entail?
