MARTINS FERRY, Ohio — A Martins Ferry man is headed to Cambridge Municipal Court after allegedly driving students and coaches to a sporting event while under the influence.

According to the media outlet River News Network , 58-year-old Ronald D. Irvin Vah Jr. is slated to appear for an evidentiary hearing on Sept. 18 stemming from the Aug. 26 incident.

Vah is alleged to have driven from Martins Ferry Middle School students to Cambridge for a volleyball game. During the drive, several witnesses told police they witnessed Vah nearly hit multiple vehicles in St. Clairsville.

Vah was also observed screaming, unsteady on his feet, wobbling, and swaying during the volleyball game.

When police made contact with Vah and asked if he may be under the influence Vah said “no, maybe a little bit tired from being out at the lake all weekend and working all day.”

According to police, Vah failed standard sobriety tests, and when officers searched a cooler that allegedly belonged to Vah, they found mail, medicine bottles, Vah’s wallet, ice packs, two water bottles, and a stainless steel tumbler with liquid inside. Police said the tumbler smelled of alcohol.

River News Network was able to confirm with Martins Ferry Schools Superintendent Jim Fogle that Vah is no longer a school district employee.

Vah is scheduled to go to trial on Oct. 28
