Adena, OHIO (WTRF) – A Busload of Books made a stop at a local elementary school today.
Buckeye West Elementary welcomed children’s authors Robbi Behr and Matthew Swanson to hold an assembly with the kids.

It was one of 15 schools in the nation that were chosen to participate, and there were two assemblies.

“When we come into schools, we want to give kids a chance to be excited about reading, but also to show them that they’re creators, too. They can draw pictures, they can make books, you know, they can put together a comic book, you know, this afternoon if they want to. So, we want to get them excited about reading. We want to get them excited about writing. We want to get them excited about drawing. We started making books when we were little kids, and we never stopped. So, we say to them, hey, listen, this is something you can start doing right now. You have a story to tell that you’re the only one in the world that can tell them. We want them to feel empowered to tell their stories and to connect with one another through sharing experiences and storytelling.”

After the assemblies, students got to pick out books from the bus. They also took photos with Robbi and Matthew and even got to pet two dogs, owned by them.

The Busload of Books program travels around the country to schools that may be underprivileged and provides the students with books and a fun assembly.

Robbi and Matthew are off to Kentucky tomorrow and will be in St. Louis later this week.
