Two Ohio students charged in threats to schools

Two Ohio students have been charged after they allegedly made threats to their schools.

The two students have been charged with inducing panic.

One of the students is from the Buckeye Local School District, the other is from Edison Local.

The charges are only misdemeanors because the school buildings were not evacuated.

According to Jefferson County juvenile prosecutor Bernie Battistel, both students made their initial appearances in court.

Battistel says early next week the students will have an adjudication hearing where they can admit or deny the charge.

A female juvenile was arrested on Wednesday, September 11 in relation to the threat toward Buckeye Local School District. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said the student took responsibility and admitted to making both threats to Buckeye Local Schools.

”If you’re going to give a kid a phone, like a smart phone with the capability of having the universe at their fingertips, you better understand what they’ve got. You better understand the type of social platform, social media platforms they’re on, the type of content of viewing, the type of content that they’re sending. This isn’t the first time that we’ve talked about juveniles making mistakes with these phones. It keeps happening and keeps happening. Every student will be checked upon entering the building by school administration staff in the presence of law enforcement. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will have a heightened presence within the district for a period of time moving forward. And we’re going to continue to investigate this to make sure the individual in custody acted alone.”
