Local firefighter honored at International Association of Fire Fighters’ Fallen Firefighter Memorial

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — Wheeling firefighter Matthew McGovern was honored today at the International Association of Fire Fighters’ Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Members of the Local 12 Honor Guard, along with the McGovern family, traveled to Colorado to pay their respects as Fire Engineer McGovern’s name was enshrined at the memorial.

McGovern, a 25-year veteran of the department, passed away January 9, 2023 after a battle with occupational brain cancer.
