Motorcycle crash leaves one dead and one hospitalized

BELMONT COUNTY, OHIO (WTRF) — On Sunday, September 22, 2024 at approximately 2:44pm, The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Deep Run Road (County Road 2).

According to officials, a 2010 Harley Davidson Road King, driven by Eric Kull, 65, of Yorkville, was traveling eastbound on County Road 2. Officials say Alicia Basil, 54, of Martins Ferry, was riding on the motorcycle with Mr. Kull. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the Harley Davidson drove off the left side of the roadway striking a utility pole.

According to officials, Kull sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. They say Basil sustained serious injuries and was transported to UPMC Presbyterian by STAT medevac.

Assisting the Saint Clairsville Post at the scene was: Rayland Volunteer Fire Department, Tiltonsville Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, STAT medevac, Braden’s Towing, and Belmont County Coroner’s Office.

Officials say neither Kull nor Basil were wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and alcohol is not suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash.
