WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — Officials at the Crittenton Center in Wheeling are expressing gratitude to Senator Shelley Moore Capito for just over three million dollars in Congressional Directed Spending funds.

The center for young mothers, babies, and youngsters with behavioral issues will be able to build two new small ranch homes for residential health care.

Each one will house up to seven young girls.

The state is changing the way that they do residential services for adolescents. So in order for us to be able to serve more young girls, mothers and babies, we needed to build buildings and this federal appropriation is going to allow us to do that.”

Jasmine Llovar, Director of Business Development and Marketing

Our kids live in a kind of dormitory-style cinder block building. A lot of the bedrooms are just not that attractive, it’s just not that comfortable of a setting. It feels institutional. So for us to be able to build buildings that really meet the needs of our kids that are overcoming so much adversity in their lives is everything that they deserve while they’re going through this.”

Tracee Chambers, Vice President, Residential Services

The exact amount going to Crittenton will be $3.042 million in funding awards from Congressional Directed Spending.
