MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Monongalia County Republican Executive Committee has passed a resolution calling for the resignation of a state senator after his third arrest earlier this month.

Michael Maroney was arrested in Marshall County on Sept. 23, and was charged with Control of Vehicle Under the Influence, Expired Registration-1, and No Registration .

He was previously arrested in August on two charges of indecent exposure and disorderly conduct in relation to an incident where Maroney allegedly engaged in an “overt act of sexual gratification.”

In a release Friday morning, County GOP Chairman Ethan Moore said “the committee acknowledges the principle of innocence until proven guilty but raises significant concerns about the senator’s ability to continue serving effectively and maintain public confidence.”

Maroney was removed from his State Senate committee positions after being arrested in August.

The resolution passed by the committee says his legal troubles limit his ability to fully represent his constituents, and which is “effectively leaving Senate District 2 down one vote.”

It also calls on Governor Jim Justice (R) to empower the Senate to expel or censure Maroney if he does not willingly resign.

Maroney’s district includes Monongalia County mostly north and west of Morgantown, and also includes parts of Marion and Marshall counties, as well as all of Doddridge, Wetzel, and Tyler counties.

most political candidates has skeletons in their closets, both Democrats and Republicans. Some just become targets and exploited more because either its election time or because they say how they feel and fight for rather than read from notes or what's told to them thru ear devices.
