WHEELING, W.Va (WTRF) — Game Changer changes the game when it comes to preventive education and early exposure to the harms of fentanyl and other opioids.

Their education program spanning 6 th through 12 th grade along with their films geared towards 3 rd through 5 th grade allow students to gain a deeper understanding of these deadly substances.

With the fentanyl crisis at hand, it’s more important than ever to make sure that we keep this lethal substance out of the hands of children.

Executive director Joe Boczek shares with us how this program is essential in proactively keeping students informed.

“It’s a stone-cold killer and it’s killing our kids. Game Changer is basically relying on the philosophy that we have to educate rather than mandate. Our youth are very bright today and they need taught on why to stay away, not told to stay away.”

Laken’s Law mandates that all schools’ grades 6 through 12 in West Virginia teach fentanyl prevention education.

With the teacher and parent toolkits that Game Changer offers, it’s easier than ever to find age-appropriate, up to date lessons.

“All teachers, principals throughout the schools in West Virginia will be able to download the complete toolkit including teacher lesson plans, the film One Pill Can Kill. By going to our website and clicking on the link, then Laken’s Law toolkit, you will have everything at your disposal free of charge.”

Game Changer has also made two films, One Pill Can Kill and You Have What It Takes both geared towards 3 rd through 5 th grade.

“Play this film, look at the parent toolkit, go over these things with your child, get involved with your child because it’s so important with the peer pressure out there today and all the temptations. Unfortunately, in seconds you could lose a child.”

Boczek says this is a real threat and it’s not going away anytime soon. Now is the time to educate and prepare early on.
