    ( WTRF ) – The Ohio Valley celebrates the 60 th Annual Barnesville Pumpkin Festival, iconic letters from one local hospital were removed and WTRF continues their series “Saving a Generation: The Fentanyl Crisis.”

    WTRF is proud to be a part of helping people share their stories—so no one has to suffer alone with our special series “Saving a Generation: The Fentanyl Crisis.”

    This week you heard several stories about Fentanyl including the story of a woman who is in active recovery , what Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is doing to “fend off” the dangerous drug , and what the Wheeling Police Department has been seeing in recent years with fentany l.

    We have a whole special with these stories airing next week starting Monday, September 30th on WTRF CBS at 10pm.

    The special will air again on Wednesday—October 2nd at 10pm on WTRF ABC Ohio Valley.

    Fraud Bingo aims to educate seniors on scams

    Older people continue to be victimized by scams, despite hundreds of news stories pointing out the dangers.

    This week, Senior Services of Belmont County came up with a way to get the word out to seniors in a way they’d enjoy and pay attention to.

    If you’ve ever been to a Bingo game, you’ve seen this phenomenon. All eyes and ears are straining, focused and attentive. So Senior Services of Belmont County held a huge game of Fraud Bingo.

    Hundreds of people showed up for the event.

    Former West Virginia hospital with over 100 year history has it’s letters removed

    It’s the end of an era this week in Wheeling as the historic Ohio Valley General Hospital (OVGH) letters were removed.

    All is not lost though, the OVGH History Group is on a mission to preserve some of the history of the medical center including its iconic letters.

    The history group reminds us that although the building may not remain, the memories of those who took part in it will live on.

    Barnesville Pumpkin Festival’s King Pumpkin weighs in at 2,196 pounds

    Nothing quite says autumn like pumpkins…and the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival is a seasonal favorite many Ohio Valley residents eagerly await every year.

    The 60th Barnesville Pumpkin Festival kicked off this evening with the weigh-in of the King Pumpkin.

    Dozens of vehicles made their way to the town carrying all sorts of heavy squash to compete for the crown.

    But this year’s winners are Lee and Derrik Zappa of Mercer, Pennsylvania with a whopping 2,196-pound pumpkin!
