BELMONT, Ohio (WTRF) – When a high school athlete wants to continue playing in college, there’s a lot they need to know in order to pursue that dream.

Union Local High School’s girls’ basketball coach has put together an event that spells it all out, for students, parents and coaches.

What does a high school player need to do, to become a college player?

The challenges are not just physical, but academic and mental.

Experts like Dr. Gregory Merrick, Chase Harler and Chris Richardson will explain in detail.

They’ll tell local coaches how they can support their players, and tell parents how they can help their kids.

“Looking to help educate other coaches in that area and parents in the area on what the steps would be if your child wants to play at the next level, some type of college program. There’s often misinformation out there on what your child needs to do or how they need to participate in activities outside of their season and this program’s going to educate coaches and parents on what they can do.”

Zac Shutler – Union Local High School Superintendent

They’ll even talk about how to choose a school.

They say the college athletic recruiting process can be a bit overwhelming.

Moving Up Step By Step is at 7 p.m. this Wednesday in the Union Local auditorium.
