MONROE COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) — Monroe Central fans had plenty of reason to be optimistic at the start of the season; after all, the team finished with a 7-5 record that included a playoff victory.

They would also return an All-Ohio quarterback and several other key personnel.

It’s safe to say the Noles have not disappointed.

They have pretty much dominated pretty much everyone this year.

They’re 6-0 on the season and have outscored their opponents 289 – 50.

Tucker Howell, the quarterback, has rewritten almost every Monroe Central passing record.

In last week’s 46-0 win over Magnolia, he threw for 137 yards and three touchdowns.

In the process, he broke the school’s all-time passing record of three-thousand-six hundred and fifty-seven yards.

A record that former Noles quarterback Jarret Hooper set.

They told me I was pretty close to the record, so I was pretty pumped about that. It’s a relief now because I don’t feel so much pressure as I did now that I can just set the bar very high.”

Howell says that while he is grateful to have the record, his main focus has always been winning each week. He says he’s had plenty of help both on and off the field.

Our line has done a really good job this year. I’ve got plenty of time to throw the ball. Our running has been really good. Our receivers do a really good job of catching the ball and making plays after the catch. So everybody all around. It’s just a team effort. Everybody in the whole community supports us, and it means a lot. I wouldn’t be here without them.”

He’s a humble kid. Never brags about anything. He also has the most touchdowns in school history. He broke that last year. I’m just glad to see him do well. But he really just wants team success. He wants the wins. He wants to win for his team.”

Jonathan ‘Fin’ Calder, Head Football Coach, Monroe Central

To make the night even more special, two of his three touchdown passes were to his brother, sophomore receiver Cooper Howell.

That just adds to the friendly sibling rivalry between the two.

He tells me that I suck, and I tell him that he sucks, so it’s just back and forth. But at the end of the day, we always congratulate each other. We are always excited for each other when we do something.”

Is playing a part in breaking the record special to you? Yeah, it is. That will be with us forever, so we can tell everyone about it.”

Congratulations to Monroe Central’s Tucker Howell, this week’s 7News Athlete of the Week.
