WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) – While you are digging out the Fall or Halloween decorations and trying to decide where to display them, you might want to also consider bringing in the plants on your porch soon.

On average, the Ohio Valley typically experiences their first freeze watch or warning somewhere in mid October.

Freeze Watches and Warnings can be confusing, but one thing is for certain. Cold air is on it’s way.

What to do if you are outlined in a Freeze Watch or Warning

A freeze watch will be issued as we head through the middle of October on the first night we experience temperatures dropping below 36°F. Residents should bring in any potted plants and consider harvesting their final crops before temperatures fall into the Freeze warning criteria.

Always remember to check in with the elderly when approaching our first frost of the season to ensure heating is efficiently working for the cold nights ahead.
