JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) — This week’s Band of the Week takes us to Jefferson County to check out a talented group hard at work putting the finishing touches on not just one but as many as three different shows.

7News has the latest on the Edison Wildcats.

We bring a lot of energy, music, and hype. It’s just a good thing. It brings up peoples spirits. It’s really enjoying to watch.”

    Kathryn Clancey, Co-captain, Edison Band

Week after week, Edison Wildcat fans can count on an impressive and highly entertaining halftime show.

In fact, they will be treated to three separate shows throughout the season.

Each one is a high-energy event that never fails to get the crowd on their feet.

The seventy-plus kids in this year’s group work long hours perfecting their routines, and they have a great time doing it.

It has to be fun, or I’m going to lose the kids, but there has to be a mix of hard work to get that accomplished and have that material ready for Friday night or Saturday night, and that’s the moment we get to have fun.”

Marc Sansone. Band Director, Edison Marching Band

Marc Sansone is in his 21st year as Band Director. He says this year’s band is solid from top to bottom.

Our Brass is big and loud, and they kind of cover the bottom. The woodwinds are doing a great job, and on the top and the middle, the drumline is always keeping a solid beat for us.”

Marc Sansone, Band Director, Edison High School Marching Band

There is also a great mix of talented underclassmen who benefit from great senior leadership.

I think it’s great to see the freshmen that are coming in and to see how they excelled. They are, especially this year, they just came in and are crushing it. And I’m excited to see, once we are gone how the program continues to grow.”

Myah Howell, Senior Saxophone Player, Edison Marching Band

Show number one is challenging and a favorite for many band members. It features hard rock and heavy metal music.

Their second and current show is an 80s and 90s throwback while senior band members will pick their third.

I think we are a very hard working band. A lot of bands are, but I feel like we are very hard-working, and we push ourselves to do our best. We push each other and lift each other up as we go through the season.”

Avah Reed, Senior Drumline Captain, Edison Marching Band

The amount of work you put in and seeing the result a lot is also really fun to see. When we work on a show at band camp, from playing it in the music room to marching it on the field, just the way it comes together is really satisfying.”

Ali Shrieve, Senior Piccolo Player. Edison Marching Band

Beverly Sansone has served as Assistant Band Director alongside her husband for the past 20 years.

Nick Hughes is a new assistant, and Maki Stewart is the Percussion Instructor.

Congratulations to the Edison Wildcat Marching Band, which is this week’s Band of the Week.
