WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — Hundreds of law enforcement officials from across the state of West Virginia were in the Friendly City for a special event that is held every year.

The West Virginia Chief’s of Police Association held their annual conference at Oglebay’s Wilson Lodge on Saturday.

The non-profit and 501c corporation consists of roughly 120 members that come together once a year to complete various trainings and elect executive board members.

The conference wrapped up Saturday evening with a banquet that featured various speakers. At the banquet, several chief law-enforcement officers were recognized for the work they’ve done throughout the state.

The president of the association and the Chief of Police at the Wheeling Police Department, Shawn Schwertfeger, shares more about exactly what their mission is.

“We meet monthly. We spend a lot of time at the legislature when it’s in session. We try to advocate for what’s best for law enforcement officials throughout the state. It’s a really good organization. I’m proud to be part of it. And, you know, just looking forward to continuing this momentum, we’re always looking for additional membership. So that’s one of our focus is going into this next year.”
