Kleineke and Newburn vying for Jefferson County Commission seat

JEFFERSON COUNTY, OHIO (WTRF) – 7NEWS is your Local Election Headquarters, and there are 2 Commission seats up for grabs in Jefferson County.

Republican Ron Kleineke and Democrat Charles Newburn are facing off for the seat currently held by David Maple.

Mr. Kleineke is running to get Jefferson County’s respect back at the Ohio Statehouse. He wants to bring in and keep manufacturing jobs, and also wants to address homeless issues, as well as internet and water service.

Mr. Newburn is a long-time Wayne Township trustee, and says he wants to see a better way of life for Jefferson County. He’s concerned about the closure of Eastern Gateway Community College, bridge and parking issues, and wants to make sure money is being spent properly.

“The big subject is economic development. But of course, without having a direct relationship with elected officials at the state level you’re not going to get the interest from Columbus like you have in Weirton over here. Weirton has a great relationship, or should I say Brooke and Hancock Counties have a great relationship with their leaders in Charleston.”

“I think Jefferson County is slacking in our development. We need to improve and accomplish some of the things in Jefferson County, such as technology, bringing the work of technology to our county, and whatever money comes in as far as grants and such, we need to distribute throughout the county. For all of the people, not just certain certain areas of the county.”
