New medical practice opens in West Virginia with no charge to insurance but a membership fee

Wheeling, W.Va. (WTRF-TV) A brand-new medical practice has opened in Downtown Wheeling, but this one has a much different business model.

Traditional American Medicine opened recently at the Maxwell Center near Center Market.

The doctors in charge say they will be accessible to their patients and will make their care affordable.

Drs. Sample and Workman say their practice does not bill your insurance but charges a subscription fee per month.

Memberships for adults cost 100 dollars per month, while children under the age of 18 can become members for just 25 dollars per month.

“The things that bother patients when they go to see a family medicine doctor also bother us as physicians. So, we decided to start our own independent family medicine practice to solve those problems and really get back to old school family medicine.”

“It’s really important to do something different in the area right now. I’ve, you know, did my training within the hospital system. And I also grew up in West Virginia and have seen what health care is like around here. And so being on both sides of it, both as a patient and as a doctor in training, I saw the flaws and I thought, well, there has to be a better way.”

In addition to being fully certified physicians, both doctors practice Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, which involves using the hands to locate dysfunction and then realign those areas so that the body can heal itself.
