LAKEWOOD, Ohio — An Ohio news reporter was shot early on Monday morning in what police are calling a domestic incident.

Winnie Dortch, a reporter from CBS affiliate station WOIO , was shot just before 8 a.m.

According to the news outlet, a person called to report two people arguing in the Clifton Boulevard area of Lakewood; as police were responding to the incident, the caller reported that shots were fired.

Officers with the Lakewood Police Department arrived to chase Avenue to find a man and a woman on the sidewalk.

WOIO reports that the man, later identified as 34-year-old Bryant Carter of Bedford, was pronounced deceased on the scene.

It is reported that Dortch was rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center and underwent surgery late Monday morning.

Dortch’s family told the station that the surgery went “well.”

According to the station, detectives continue to investigate what led up to the shooting and the nature of Dortch’s and Carter’s relationship.

Police said they were familiar with each other, but no other information is available at this time.

WOIO News Director Brian Sinclair posted to the station’s website, stating, “This morning, our friend and colleague Winnie Dortch was the victim of a brutal domestic violence attack. She was immediately rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center and underwent surgery for her injuries. Our prayers are with her, her young daughter, and the many other victims of domestic violence in our community. “

Police are still investigating what led up to the shooting.
