Stew Virginia? Insurance commercial shows West Virginia fans taking off their shirts misspelling the state during a game

Allstate Insurance has produced a new commercial that shows West Virginia University football fans at their home game, misspelling the state’s name.

The new commercial, which aired on national television during college football games over the weekend, shows fans at Mountaineer Field and then moves to a close-up of a group of fans.

The voiceover in the commercial says “Like you know to check your spelling first, before taking off your shirts.” The commercial then shows men standing in a straight line with body paint trying to spell West Virginia, but instead spells “Stew Virginia.”

The commercial moves to other fans in Milan Puskar Stadium showing them watching the body-painted fans on the jumbo scoreboard. The body-painted fans see themselves on the scoreboard and rearrange themselves to spell West Virginia correctly.

“Checking first is smart. So check Allstate first for a quote that could save you hundreds.” the announcer says.

News outlets have reached out to WVU regarding the commercial since WVU has a partnership with Allstate.

“It is a significant recognition of the strength of the WVU brand,” Matt Wells, WVU’s deputy athletics director told WVNews , “Allstate is a major brand. And those spots ran on national TV during College Game Day and other national broadcasts this weekend.”

Wells went on to say that the message of the commercial goes with other commercials by All State that bring a light-hearted approach.
