    WVU cross country set for Carnegie Mellon Invitational

    The West Virginia University cross country team will compete at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Oct. 12. The women’s 5k race is slated to begin at 10:45 a.m. ET, at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

    This year’s Carnegie Mellon Invitational will feature Division I, II and III teams, including regional rival Pitt.

    Last time out, the Mountaineers claimed first place at the Live in Lou Classic on Oct. 5 in Louisville, with 36 team points. Senior Ceili McCabe crossed the finished line in first place, collecting a meet record and personal best time of 16:06.00 in the women’s 5k.

    West Virginia was tabbed No. 28 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Poll on Tuesday, after the team’s performance in Louisville. Additionally, the squad was picked fourth in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic regional rankings, behind No. 1 Georgetown, No. 2 Penn State and No. 3 Villanova.
