WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) – After a pause in construction on the new Wheeling Fire Department Headquarters, the subcontractors have been working for the last few weeks to get a scope of how to get the project restarted.

The original general contractor – PCS’s &build – filed for bankruptcy back in March, passing on the project to the new general contractor – Great Lakes Contracting.

However, many of the same subs that are familiar with the project will be continuing the work that they started on the building months ago to pick up where they left off.

Chief Blazier says that they are prioritizing the outside work first before the weather gets colder.

”I think there’s a good plan in place as to try to get some stuff finished that are weather related, like the heat in the building and some of the outside concrete work and things like that. It’s slow going right now, but we’re expecting in the next few weeks for it to ramp up exponentially and you’ll start to see a lot more activity there.”

Chief Jim Blazier – Wheeling Fire Department

Wheeling fire crew members have been displaced since February of last year and working out of other stations and various locations throughout the city.

The original projected completion date of the new headquarters was in December of 2023.

Chief Blazier says that they will have a new completion date once operations ramp up in the next few weeks.
