HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. ( WTRF ) – The Hancock County Deputy Sheriff’s Association is gearing up for their 37 th annual “Shop with a Cop” event with an apparel fundraiser.

Proceeds from this event go directly towards the Shop with a Cop fund, a program that ensures families in need within Hancock County have a nice Christmas.

Deputy Sheriff Caleb Minger is helping promote the event, saying it’s a great way for the community to come together for a good cause.

“Shop with the cop is our way of trying to help families in the county who might not be able to afford Christmas, be able to get their children something for Christmas with us. We’ve sold almost 60, our goal is to sell at least 100. That would give us an extra $1,000 in our account so that we can help families this year and in future years.”

Apparel can be ordered online by clicking or tapping on this link , or by using the link posted to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page .

The last day to place an order is Oct. 31, 2024.

Minger says they expect the shirts to be in by mid-November, and those who purchased apparel can pick them up at the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office once they are in.

The deputy’s association partnered with local business, TheBaldFatGuy , for this apparel fundraiser.

This year’s Shop with a Cop will be hosted on Dec. 15 at the Weirton Walmart.

Minger says they invite all of the police departments in Hancock County to participate.

“We invite other police departments every year.  Chester Police Department, New Cumberland Police Department, of course, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and Weirton PD. They are all invited to come down to the Weirton Walmart that day.”

Minger has been with the sheriff’s office for about a year now and says this is his first year getting involved with the program.

“I’m looking forward to it. This is a great way to give back to the community. Especially to grow that community involvement and try to help build relations a little bit more between us and the community.”
