OHIO VALLEY (WTRF) – October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and with 97% of Americans owning smartphones AT&T has set up a plan to help you and your family stay safe and protected online.

It’s called the “Family Cyber Safety Checklist” that includes smartphone protection, home internet protection, family tracking and coordination, and parental controls.

The advice heard often is to refrain from clicking on suspicious links and answering spam calls, as well as creating a variety of passwords for different accounts.

However, AT&T has two apps, the Secure Family app and the Amigo app that can protect you and your family even further.

”What it allows you to do is you can see where your child is in real time. It also allows you to prohibit certain content.  It can only dial certain contacts that you have on there.  And then I support is you can track up to ten different family members and put it on 30 different devices.”

There is also a feature known as the “safety zone” where parents can set a location perimeter on their child’s phone and will get notified if they go outside of that zone.

She says that if you are worried that something is a scam, but aren’t sure, you can always go to an AT&T location, and they will set up these features for you.
