Woman killed, child injured in Henrico crash

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A woman is dead and a boy is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a car crash in Henrico, police say.

The crash happened just after 5 p.m. Monday, near the intersection of Wistar Road and Walkenhut Drive.

The woman and boy were both taken to the hospital where she later died. Police identified her as 22-year-old Retika Haider of Henrico.

An investigation showed that a BMW, driven by a man with Haider and the boy as passengers, lost control while driving west on Wistar Road.

The car crossed the center line and hit an Audi, which was traveling east.

The boy, who is of elementary school age, is currently hospitalized in critical condition.
