CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Chesterfield Police planned beefed up security Friday at Meadowbrook High School after a football fight.

Police were called to the Cogbill Road high school Thursday at about 7:33 p.m. for a fight at the school football scrimmage.

As police arrested some of the individuals involved, other teenagers "attempted to intervene," according to police.

"Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 22, police responded to a reported disturbance at Meadowbrook High School where a football scrimmage was taking place. When the scrimmage ended, a large group of juveniles (approximately 20-30) congregated and fights began," a Chesterfield Police spokesperson told CBS 6 via email. "An officer used pepper spray to disperse two separate groups that were that fighting and officers detained several juveniles."

Police said as officers attempted to take some students into custody, other students intervened and attempted to pull the students away from officers.

"Additional officers were called to the scene to assist. Ultimately, five juveniles were charged with a variety of offenses and released to their parents," the spokesperson said.

Five teenagers were arrested and charged with various crimes, according to police:

    • 13-year-old female charged with assault
    • 15-year-old female charged with assault
    • 15-year-old male was charged with trespassing, obstruction and possession of marijuana under age 21
    • 15-year-old male was charged with disorderly conduct, trespassing and obstruction
    • 17-year-old male was charged with trespassing, obstruction and wearing a mask in public

Four of the students were from Meadowbrook High School and one from Falling Creek Middle School.
    No injuries were reported.
