DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) –The city of Danville is getting a head start on spring cleaning by removing blighted homes across town.

Officials say a recent study found there are 2,500 more homes compared to the population of the city.

Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. said one thousand of them aren’t worth saving and need to be demolished. He said in order to make the homes salvageable again, it would require tens of thousands of dollars in investments.

“So, if you can tear down a blighted home for, you know, 10 to $12,000, but it’s going to cost you 50 or $60,000 to do it, you know, automatically what the economical choice is,” said Williams Jr.

The city will allow neighbors of the demolished homes to buy the land for $99.

I wonder if there is a list of properties being demolished?

Glad to see it. I'm sure that the neighbors will love getting the property.
