SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Jobs and millions of dollars in tax revenue could be on the way to a local county.

Wednesday evening, officials in Sullivan County and the Invenergy Company, announced the proposed Sycamore Energy Center.

It’s a 930 megawatt natural gas power generation facility. The center is slated to be built in Sullivan County and is targeted to begin operations in 2028. It could produced more than 100 million dollars in local tax revenue. It could produce enough electricity for 740,000 homes, along with up to 300 construction jobs. In addition, it would employ up to 25 full time people.

“In our view you really need to provide energy security not only by adding more renewables but also insuring the reliability by having on demand resource that the area can count on,” Vice President of Invenergy John Niland said.

Construction of the facility will begin in 2026 and will be located in the Fairbanks area.
