TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Indiana State Budget Committee recently approved funding to support the expansion of an early childhood care center in Terre Haute.

Indiana Senator Greg Goode announced nearly 9.8 million dollars in funding was approved. That money will support renovations of the Chestnut building on ISU’s campus.

As previously reported, ISU’s Early Childhood Education Development Center will move into the building once renovations are complete. Renovations will include adding a new elevator and upgrading the heating, ventilation, cooling, electrical and fire suppression systems. After those renovations, the building will meet child care licensing and accreditation standards.

“I have been part of this project from the beginning when I was chair of the Wabash River Regional Development authority,” Senator Greg Goode said. “I am so grateful for the hard work of those at ISU and the partnership of county, city, and philanthropic leaders to make this project a reality.”

The project is also supported by a 5.8 million dollar grant from Lilly Endowment, and 3 million dollars in federal ARPA funds from the county.

The center said the move will increase capacity, almost doubling the number of children they will be able to accept.
