TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A winning design has been chosen following the Terre Haute Flag Project contest.

Ethan Page is the head of the Terre Haute Flag Committee. He said the dark blue color was chosen to represent the Wabash River, while the gold coloring symbolizes prosperity. The white elements are reportedly meant to signify openness and new beginnings for the city.

Page further explained that the sycamore leaf also stands for the river. The design was created by Kristin Tony.

Page said he is happy with the design chosen by the end of the process.

“So it was really cool to see people’s perspectives on why they loved their hometown, and what’s important to them with their hometown,” Page said. “To be able to bring that together with a symbol that’s formed from our people, voted on by our people, and now is being elected into our community I think it is just something that is really special.”

Page said the next step is for the flag to be officially voted on by the Terre Haute City Council at their next meeting. If it is adopted as the city flag, the committee will raise sponsorships to support the hosting of a Flag Celebration Day.

My 1st thought was when did I move to Sweden. Flags are very similar. They just added a Sycamore leaf to it.
