    TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Residents in Terre Haute should be aware that a 36% fee increase is coming related to trash collection.

    Terre Haute City Council passed an ordinance during their May 9 meeting that bumps the monthly fee to $15. A $4 increase over the previous rate of $11 set in 2019.

    The ordinance shows that previously fees had been increasing at a rate of 25¢ per year between 2017 and 2019. Fees had remained stagnant through the years since 2019.

    Additionally the new ordinance sets 50¢ increases for next year and the year after bringing trash collection fees to $16 per month by July 2026.

    The ordinance notes; “The rate shall be adjusted by 5% each year to account for consumer inflation. The rate itself will be reviewed every five years to determine if an overall adjustment to the rate and yearly increases are needed.”

    The ordinance also includes various credits that can allow residents to get discounts on the fee if they meet specific requirements.

    For those requirements, read the full ordinance below;

    Think Terre Haute has got corrupt . First city letting Duke energy raise cost. Now trash cost raise. Why not offer other companies for options. Not for people but against. Do they still have signs up on 7th st police department not allowing cameras or phones in a public lobby. New mayor getting these new bills raised fast
