PARIS, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — When a medical emergency strikes, what happens in the moment can mean the difference between life and death.

One way the public can be prepared to help, should they find themselves in that situation is by learning basic life-saving techniques.

Horizon Health is offering a class for non-healthcare providers to teach the basics of CPR and AED use. AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator, which is used in cases of life-threatening cardiac events.

The class is free, however a $25 fee is required to register. That fee will then be refunded upon completion of the course. However, attendees can also choose to receive an official CPR/AED certification card from the American Heart Association, which would then cause the fee to not be refunded.

The class will be held at the Horizon Health Education Center at 15197 U.S. 150 in Paris on Tuesday, June 4 from 1-3 p.m.

The course does not include first aid instruction, however a news release states that can be arranged separately.

To register visit the Horizon Health website here . For questions or more information call 217-466-4149.
