MARSHALL, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — The independent film, “Down Below” wrapped up filming at a familiar spot in Marshall.

The street outside Archer Avenue Lofts was lined with film vehicles and equipment. The movie is based in Chicago, and it will have an interesting story to tell according to co-writer/director Matt Valdez.

“Down Below is a psychological thriller about a composer who lives in Chicago,” he says. “She gets a mysterious letter about an old family lake house that she did not know much about, so she travels to the lake house to try to find some inspiration and starts to hear something at the bottom of the lake. Then insanity ensues.”

They were only able to film in the windy city for a couple of days, so the next step was finding a place that they could sell as Chicago. Producer Alex Knapp says that Marshall passed the test.

“The first step for us coming to Marshall was actually finding a lake house property about ten minutes south of Marshall, Becky and Rob Osborne’s property,” he said. “Then we were lucky enough to find the Archer Lofts on Airbnb. Brad and Rhonda did such a great job renovating them and the interior really kind of looks like it’s in Chicago.”

The building was perfect for what they were looking for. The crew mentioned that it was convenient to have Gypsy Queen coffee shop right below them as well.

Funds are still being sourced for the finishing process. For more information or to make a donation, visit here .
