WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — West Vigo Middle School Custodian Richard Goodall otherwise known as “The Singing Janitor” is set appear on America’s Got Talent.

Goodall has had a love and passion for music his entire life. However, he never expected that a TikTok of him singing for his students would be seen by millions.

“She come up with the kindergarten teachers and they said that it was at 100,000 thousand views and I said is that good, and she said that she didn’t even have 1,000 followers,” said Goodall. “By the end of that weekend, it was a million.”

This success catapulted him to get an audition in Los Angeles for America’s Got Talent. He said that all of this success has been very surreal.

“It is like a blur to me,” he said. “I remember bits and pieces of it, and I was there and lived it, but when it airs on Tuesday night, I am going to be seeing it for the first time as well. They have never sent me any clips of it. I have no idea what they are going to put together.”

West Vigo Middle School Principal Christopher Tanner said he is representing all of the good things this area has to offer.

“He is representing Terre Haute as a city and putting us on a national televised program and giving us recognition here in the city of Terre Haute which is a great honor,” Tanner said. “Everybody should be excited about this and should be proud of Richard for being a positive representative for the city of Terre Haute.”

Tanner said that there isn’t a person who deserves this opportunity more than Goodall.

“He is going to be a star as he performs on America’s Got Talent,” Tanner said. “It is just a humbling experience for him, I think. He is just such a great person to be around.”

Goodall is set to appear on the debut episode of America’s Got Talent’s new season next Tuesday May 28 at 8 p.m. on WTWO.
