FORT WORTH, Tx. (WTWO/WAWV) — Former Indiana State shortstop Randal Diaz was selected in the 5th round with the 141st overall pick in the MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals on Monday.

Diaz hit .360 this season for the Sycamores with 18 home runs at the plate. He was named to the MVC Baseball All-Conference first team, the NCAA Lexington Regional All-Tournament team, and the 2024 ABCA/Rawling All-Midwest Region second team.

Diaz posted a .322 career batting average with the Sycamores over 168 games with 220 career hits, 35 home runs, and 128 RBIs.

Diaz becomes the 15th draft pick out of Indiana State under former Head Coach Mitch Hannahs and is the highest ISU Baseball player selected in the draft since 2015 (Jeff Degano with 57th pick by the Yankees).

The slot value for the 141st pick in the MLB Draft is $490.50K.
