TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO-WAWV)– The Vigo County Council approved an appropriation of 90,000 dollars from the solid waste management fund.

That money will be distributed between employee benefits, special events and equipment. Councilman Todd Thacker says dealing with solid waste is very important, but he says the county can always to do better.

“If we can do a better job recycling and have more services and we’re expanding that so hopefully we’ll start taking some more solid waste some more recycling down to the south,” said Thacker.

Another issue that received a lot of attention involved the Vigo County Clerk’s request to do record retention. The request was withdrawn, but Thacker hopes the issue will brought forward later after the commissioners address the request.

“I think if we can work with the commissioners to come up with better policies and some standard policies and procedures I think it would be beneficial for everyone in the community,” said Thacker.

The council also distributed a local income tax to county fire departments. Thacker says the funding depends of the number of runs performed by each department.

There was a wide range of funding with Honey Creek Fire receiving the most with almost $121 thousand, and Nevins Fire receiving 184 dollars.
