EDGAR COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) – Edgar County Animal Shelter held its Clear the Shelter event on Saturday, with more than 50 dogs available for adoption.

All dogs available for adoption are half-price, and it’s just 75 dollars to take home a new pet.

Edgar County Animal Shelter director, Andrea Bouslog says this event is a need for the shelter.

We are so overcrowded. We want to get our dogs to awesome homes but right now the shelter is just packed. We need it.

With the large number of dogs currently at the shelter, they are in need of any help they can get.

Saturday, the Paris High School cheerleading team volunteered at the shelter. They helped walk the dogs and show them off to potential owners. One volunteer says she wanted to help out because of her own dogs at home

Anyone is encouraged to come look, and play, with the dogs, in hope of adoption.

Bouslog says her biggest incentive working at the shelter is witnessing these adoptions.

Finding them homes. I have been doing this for a long time and it is actually the biggest incentive when you see them leaving and their tails are wagging, and they are happy, and you know it is a good home.

Each dog comes fixed and can be microchipped.

If you are interested in adopting a new friend or even just volunteering, the Edgar County Animal Shelter will continue the Clear the Shelter event through the month of August.
