TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The City of Terre Haute urgently needs feedback from Terre Town residents regarding the future of Terre Town Connect Project with Indiana American Water.

With only a few weeks left before the deadline, the City needs to hear from more residents to determine the future of this critical project.

“By no means we are going to go in and just do it,” said Mayor Brandon Sakbun. “We need resident feedback.”

According to a news release, the Terre Town Connect Project aims to connect homes to the Indiana American Water utility system. This project will offer significant improvements in water quality, fire safety and increase property values.

Plus, there are no upfront connection costs for residents.

Terre Town Connect Project Proposed Service Area

“Thanks to funding from American Rescue Plan Act, they are able to cover the cost for homeowners residences,” said the Mayor of Terre Haute.

The City of Terre Haute has secured $2 million in ARPA funds to cover connection fees, and Indiana American Water is prepared to invest up to $6 million in the project if enough residents participate.

So far, approximately one-third of residents have provided feedback. It’s important now more than ever for the participation of the entire community as it is essential to ensure the best outcome of Terre Town.

“If we get a certain percentage of residents saying yes, then we’ll execute this project. If the individuals do not want to do this, then we’ll find another project for the American Rescue Plan Act funds,” said Mayor Sakbun.

And if the Terre Town Connect Project moves forward, Mayor Sakbun believes construction can begin even as soon as the end of 2024.

“We hope to see design work being done in the winter of 2024 or 2025. Spring of 2025 the utility of Indiana American Water doing construction in that neighborhood. Not only does this benefit the current residences but it would open up some parcels of land for future residential development.”

Residents are strongly encouraged to visit the Terre Town Connect website and provide feedback which is critical in determining the future of the project.

The feedback deadline is Friday, September 6th.
